The Zoo’s two sibling cubs, Luke & Leia, along with newly adopted female cub, Zuri, are now 4 months old.  All three cubs continue to bond behind-the-scenes in the lion holding area.  The weather is still too cold to allow them outdoors on exhibit just yet.

The quarantine period for the cubs ended in the middle of January and all three cubs continue to show signs of good health.  Each cub currently weighs close to 40 pounds.  Keepers who have hand raised the cubs have begun to pull back from hands on care as the cubs are beginning to become larger and more independent.

Luke, Leia, and Zuri will be introduced to the lion yard as weather permits over the next few weeks.  The exhibit has been cub proofed with some additional safety features to help ensure the cubs aren’t at any risk as they explore the outdoor space.  The goal will be to introduce the cubs to the exhibit with the hopes of having a regular on exhibit time by early spring.

We’ll continue to keep you updated on their progress, which so far has been more than encouraging.  We know you are just as excited as we are to see them on exhibit here at the Zoo.
