Explore the World of Animals

The Maryland Zoo in Baltimore offers a fun-filled and educational Zoo Camp for children entering grades 1–6 in the fall of 2022. Campers experience a unique, week-long day camp that allows them to explore the world of animals here at the Zoo!

  • Nature Explorers (Grades 1-2): Monday, July 11th – Friday, July 15th [SOLD OUT]
  • Zoo Detectives (Grades 3-4): Monday, July 18th – Friday, July 22nd [SOLD OUT]
  • Habitat Heroes (Grades 5-6): Monday, July 25th – Friday, July 29th [SOLD OUT]
camp Hours:

Camp runs from 9:00 am–4:00 pm, Monday through Friday.

General camp activities include:
  • Immersive tours of the Zoo
  • Interacting with the animal experts
  • Behind-the-scenes experiences and keeper chats
  • Special up-close visits with Animal Ambassadors
  • Brushing goats
  • Creating wildlife-themed crafts
  • Learning ways we can all help protect wildlife and wild places!
camp Themes:
  • [SOLD OUT] Nature Explorers (Grades 1-2): Campers will connect with the outdoors through nature-based activities and fun, exploring the Zoo to learn about the importance of protecting wildlife and wild places. Campers should be prepared to spend a significant amount of time outside in various weather conditions.
  • [SOLD OUT] Zoo Detectives (Grades 3-4 ): Zoodunnit? Campers will use their detective skills as they follow the trail to solve the mysteries of the animal kingdom. Work with the Director of the ZIA (Zoo Intelligence Agency) to follow clues, solve puzzles, and crack the case to earn your Zoo Detective Badge! Campers should be prepared to spend a significant amount of time outside in various weather conditions.
  • [SOLD OUT] Habitat Heroes (Grades 5-6): Explore the different habitats that animals live in and how they are adapted to survive there. Campers will also learn about how scientists explore the natural world every day through real-world investigations and discoveries. Learn to track wild animals, conduct experiments, and unravel the mysteries of animal behavior. Make your own mark on the world by helping scientists tackle real-world conservation issues and become a habitat hero! Campers should be prepared to spend a significant amount of time outside in various weather conditions.

What does my child need to bring with them to camp?
  • Refillable water bottle (labeled with camper name)
  • Lunch (labeled with camper name)
  • Snack
  • Sunscreen (recommended)
  • Hat (recommended)
  • Medications (where applicable)
  • Rain gear—dress for the weather!

Cancellation/Change Policy: A $50 non-refundable processing fee applies for any requested changes made to, or cancellation of, any confirmed registration. Cancellations received at least two weeks (10 business days) prior to the start of a Camp date will receive a full refund, minus the $50 processing fee. Refunds will not be issued for cancellations received fewer than 10 business days prior to the Camp start date or for any missed days of Camp. In the event the Zoo cancels a program, a full refund will be issued.
