As Spring turns into Summer, construction on the new African Penguin Exhibit continues. Things, namely buildings and pools, have really taken shape as the construction crew starts to move into the finishing stages of the project. In our most recent time lapse video, see the constant movement of dirt, people and machines. In the past few weeks, the swimming channel between the buildings and other pools have been shaped to resemble rocky tide pools in the penguin’s natural habitat. The exterior of the buildings have also begun to be treated so that they look like a South African fishing village.
To protect them from avian influenza, penguins and other bird species have been moved indoors.
