Spring Into Action

Celebrate Earth Day and spring into action to protect wildlife and wild places. Join us throughout the Zoo for keeper chats, educational activities, and more! Along the way, complete our Operation: Conservation activity carrying out missions to protect the planet. Work your way through the Zoo with activities and fun to become a planet protection agent! Visitors who complete the challenge will be entered to win a special prize. This event is FREE with Zoo admission or membership!

  • 10:00 – 2:00: Participate in our mobile Operation: Conservation activity, leading you through various activities throughout the Zoo
  • 10:00 – 2:00: Learn about protecting native species by visiting our partnering local organization tables throughout the Zoo
  • 10:00 – 2:00: Learn about turtle tracking and track with our conservation experts in Main Valley
  • 10:00 – 2:00: Craft with us and learn the art of recycling in the Penguin Education Center
  • 10:00 – 2:00: Help prevent the spread of invasive species with our Horticulture experts in Pawprint Park (Main Valley)
  • 11:00: Snowy owl conservation chat (Saturday only) at the Snowy Owl habitat (Main Valley)
  • 11:00: Recycling demonstration with goats (Saturday only) in the Farmyard
  • 11:30: Animal ambassador training demonstration in the Penguin Education Center
  • 11:30: Otter training demonstration (Sunday only) at the otter habitat (Maryland Wilderness)
  • 11:30: Leopard training demonstration at the leopard habitat (African Journey)
  • 12:00: Grizzly bears and climate change chat at the grizzly habitat (Northern Passage)
  • 12:00: Learn the process of composting and what’s in the Zoo gardens with our Zoo Nutritionists in Main Valley
  • 1:00: North American porcupine and climate change chat at the porcupine habitat (Northern Passage)
  • 1:30: African penguin conservation chat (Saturday only) at Penguin Coast
  • 1:30: Animal ambassador training demonstration in Main Valley
  • 1:30: Chimp Training and Conservation Chat at Chimpanzee Forest (African Journey)
  • 2:00: Okapi conservation chat at the okapi habitat (African Journey)
