Celebrate the importance of conservation field work at the Zoo’s Conservation Day!

Learn how the Zoo and our conservation partners track and observe animals of all sizes, from box turtles to elephants. Join us for keeper chats, complete a scavenger hunt, and explore education stations throughout the Zoo. Conservation Day activities are included with your Zoo admission, all activities are weather dependent and subject to change.

This event is free with Zoo admission or membership.

Schedule of Activities & Locations:

10:00 am – 4:00 pm: Naturalist Lodge

• Grab your scavenger hunt and schedule.
• Once you complete your scavenger hunt, return for a small prize!

10:00 am – 12:00 pm: Penguin Education Center

• Education Station: Learn how birds are banded.

10:30 am – 11:30 am: Red Panda Habitat

• Education Station: Use an ethogram to observe and document animal behavior.

10:30 am: Elephant Habitat

• Elephant Keeper Chat.

11:00 am – 1:00 pm: Elephant Habitat

• Education Station: Tracking elephant.

11:00 am – 1:00 pm: Maryland Wilderness

• Education Station: Learn how conservationists use telemetry to understand and protect animals.

11:30 am: Main Valley Stone Barn

• Animal Ambassador Keeper Chat.

1:00 pm – 2:00 pm: Farmyard Meeting Barn

• Education Station: Learn how trail cameras work.

1:00 pm – 2:00 pm: Chimpanzee Forest

• Education Station: Use an ethogram to observe and document animal behavior.
