waterbottle2Spring is almost here!  It’s time to escape hibernation and head to The Maryland Zoo for our first big event of the new Zoo season. Join us Saturday, March 12th from 10am – 4pm for Zoo Bloom and Farm Day.  We’ll be welcoming spring (and warmer weather) with special activities and treats for you and our animals, as well as learning about the animals that live on farms.

As part of this special event the Zoo will be featuring a full schedule of animal enrichment, where our animals will receive spring-themed treats. We’ll even have free treats on hand for you from our friends at Charm City Cakes. It’s a great day to see some of your favorite animals at their most active times…so don’t forget your camera!

Main Entrance Activities:

  • Guests will receive a sample of Charm City Cakes or a cookie (while supplies lasts)
  • Mascot Sphen and animal ambassadors will be located at Schaefer Plaza


Educational Activities:

In celebration of Farm Day, learn about the the animals that live in the Farmyard and much more about the plants and animals that live on farms. 

  • 11:15 am – Sheep Shearing Demonstration in the Farmyard
  • 11:30 am – Puppet Show inside Penguin Coast
  • 12:00 pm - Sheep Shearing Demonstration in the Farmyard
  • 12:45 pm - Sheep Shearing Demonstration in the Farmyard
  • 1:30 pm – Puppet Show inside Penguin Coast
  • 1:30 pm – Goat Training Demonstration in the Farmyard
  • 2:00 pm – Sheep Keeper Chat & Walk
  • 2:30 pm – Guinea Fowl Bingo in the Farmyard
  • 3:00 pm – Donkey Hoof Work Demonstration
  • All Day Activities – Education Stations in the Farmyard, Farm Videos in Penguin Coast


Here We Grow! Activity in The Farmyard:

PDlogo_cloud (3)Our friends at Port Discovery are celebrating Here We Grow, a new agricultural exhibit! Here We Grow! will introduce children and their caregivers to farm processes, products and people through the themes of science and technology, history, local ecology, global economics and art.

Stop by Port Discovery’s activity table in the Farmyard and make your own Seed Burst Pot from 10am to 1pm!  Beautify a biodegradable planting pot and add a nourishing clay ball embedded with seeds that you can plant at home.

Join us to participate in multiple activities including “Zoomba” (movement activity centering around animals), carnival games, and trivia. Admission allows you to participate in all of the activities and proceeds go toward supporting the zoo and its operations!
