It’s been just about 3 months since the birth of our newest addition to the Coquerel’s sifaka family, baby Nero. Now that Nero is growing, guests will see him riding on his mother’s back more instead of clinging to her stomach. Nero is becoming more and more independent and is beginning to explore the exhibit space on his own with lots of jumping, bouncing and climbing.

Baby nero is one of four Coquerel’s sifaka at The Maryland Zoo. Sifaka are an endangered species of lemur native to Madagascar. Along with Nero, the Zoo is home to brother Otto, mother Anastasia and father Gratian. The entire sifaka family can be seen on exhibit together in the Zoo’s chimpanzee forest.
