The Zoo hosts a launch event at the taproom this Sunday, April 26

BALTIMORE, MDAs part of its year-long 150th anniversary celebration, Maryland Zoo is teaming up with Checkerspot Brewing Company on an animal-inspired beer collaboration.

The beer, Caesar’s Kölsch, is named for Caesar, a 20 year-old male reticulated giraffe (Giraffa camelopardalis reticulata) who has been a beloved member of the Zoo’s herd since his arrival in 2007. It will launch during a special Zoo takeover at the brewery’s taproom on Sunday, April 26 from 2-5 pm.

Brewed with Motueka & Strata hops, Caesar’s Kölsch has a low alcohol content of 4.5% and a crisp, vibrant finish that pairs perfectly with summer BBQs, backyard hangs, and even a stroll through the Zoo (where it will be available at concession stands).

During the Zoo taproom takeover, guests can explore educational stations, meet zookeepers, and learn how the Zoo’s conservation and sustainability work here in Maryland and around the globe, protects wild animals and wild places.

Checkerspot Brewing Company is located near M&T Bank Stadium at 1421 Ridgely St., Baltimore, MD 21230.

Maryland Zoo’s upcoming 150th anniversary festivities include a Zoo-themed evening with Stoop Storytelling on April 25th, Brew at the Zoo on Memorial Day weekend, the return of Zoomerang (a wild gala like no other) on June 12th, and the opening of a new habitat for red pandas early this summer.
