— Registration opens today for this twist on the traditional Zoo summer camp —
BALTIMORE, MD – While traditional summer camp at the Zoo is not possible this year, the Zoo is offering a new twist on summer camp with Sofa Safaris! Children can join the Zoo’s animals and educators for a 4-day Zoo adventure, right from their sofa–or favorite chair! Through interactive activities and special Zoo experiences, children will explore differences and similarities between wildlife and wild places in their backyard and across the globe. The Zoo is offering 4-day sessions for children in four different age groups:
- Animal Adventures from June 29 – July 2, for children aged 4 or entering Kindergarten.
- Animal Olympics from July 13 – 16, for children entering 1st and 2nd grades.
- Zoo Detectives from July 27 – 30, for children entering 3rd and 4th grades.
- Nature Explorers from August 10 – 13, for children entering 5th and 6th grades.
On each day of the 4-day program, campers and camp counselors will meet for live Zoom sessions from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. and reconvene from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The Animal Adventures session for children aged 4 or entering kindergarten in the fall will have a single session each day from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 am. Sofa Safari campers will explore wildlife and wild places at the Zoo through participatory games and activities as well as having the opportunity to meet a variety of the Zoo’s animal ambassadors.
Registration for Sofa Safaris is $125 per non-member child, $100 for per member child and includes a Sofa Safari at-home kit with a few items to be used during some of camp activities. Participants will also receive additional activities they can do on their own after the session is completed.
Registration is limited to a small group of participants to ensure a personal, interactive experience.
