Teen Leaders Institute

The Teen Leaders Institute is a unique winter service-learning program for high school juniors and seniors with an interest in learning about careers in the non-profit sector such as marketing, finance, event planning, community relations, and a desire to make a difference.

Throughout the program, we teach teens about The Zoo’s mission and introduce teens to how the Zoo functions as a model of non-profit management.  Teens will also participate in important group service projects.  Public speaking, strategic planning, resume writing, and collaborating with others are some of the many skills explored through this program.  This program strives to engage underserved high school students in developing career leadership and life-skills.  Teen Leaders hours may be used to complete the Maryland State Service Learning requirement. Places in Teen Leaders Program are limited, and admission is competitive.

The 2014 Teen Leaders Institute will take place Saturday mornings from 9:00am to 1:00pm from February 1, 2014 through March 29, 2014.  Participants must commit to full participation in all program dates. THE APPLICATION DEADLINE FOR THIS YEAR’S PROGRAM HAS NOW PASSED.

For additional information, you can read the 2014 Teen Leader Program Flyer.

Applications for the 2014 Teen Leaders Institute are no longer being accepted. Please check back in late fall of 2014 to apply for next year’s program.
