The Junior Zoo Crew is a fun and rewarding volunteer program for students ages 14-17 with an interest in animal science, horticulture, education, conservation, Zoo operations, and most importantly, volunteering.
Throughout the program, we teach teens about The Zoo’s mission, its animal inhabitants, careers available at the Zoo, and its significant role in conservation while engaging them in important group service projects. Upon completion of the first summer, participants may be accepted into the Junior Volunteer program, where they serve as Keeper Aid volunteers or Education Aid volunteers. JZC hours may be used to complete the Maryland State Service Learning requirement. Places in Junior Zoo Crew are limited, and admission is competitive.
The deadline for Junior Zoo Crew 2013 has passed and recruitment for summer 2013 is now closed. To apply for next summer’s Junior Zoo Crew, please return to this site in early January 2014.

The Maryland Zoo in Baltimore’s Teen Volunteer Programs are generously supported by:
Teens 14 and older are encouraged to volunteer at Zoo special events like ZooBOOO!, the Adopter’s Picnic, and our animal-themed breakfast series. Zoo events are important because they help us raise funds to care for the animals, and they get people excited about the Zoo. Volunteers make the events successful by playing games and making crafts with our guests, providing directions and information, and much more.
Participating as an event volunteer is perfect for teens who want to help, but are not able to make a regular commitment or are not old enough for Junior Zoo Crew. Teens 14-15 are welcome to volunteer alongside an adult who will also participate in the volunteer experience. To learn about upcoming events, please contact the Volunteer Department at firstname.lastname@example.org or 443-552-5266.
