Get to know more about the world’s largest land predator.  Join us at the Zoo for an Arctic inspired celebration fit for polar bears.  This special day long event features educational activities, visits with animal ambassadors, animal enrichment, crafts using recycled materials, giveaways and chats with keepers who care for The Maryland Zoo’s two polar bears, Magnet and Anoki.

Learn about the challenges facing this fragile species and how you can help protect their precious polar environment with choices we make right here in Maryland.  It’s a great opportunity for guests of all ages to experience the world of polar bears and hear first hand from those who care for them.

Schedule of Polar Bear Awareness Day activities:

  • 11:30am – Keeper Chat at Polar Bear Watch
  • 11:00am to 12:00pm – Animal Ambassadors on display in the Tundra Buggy
  • 1:30pm – Keeper Chat at Polar Bear Watch
  • 10:00am to 12:00pm & 1:00pm to 3:00pm – Education Stations in the Tundra Buggy
  • Dance performances on each half hour by Hannah Kerr & Proving Ground Movement at Creature Encounters

Guests are encouraged to bring used plastic bags to the Zoo on Polar Bear Awareness Day to help the reuse and recycle effort here at the Zoo.  The event also features special giveaways and the chance for one lucky guest to win a behind-the-scenes tour of The Maryland Zoo’s Polar Bear Watch.
