Teacher Trainings

The Zoo is pleased to offer teacher training sessions designed to help enrich classroom experiences featuring wildlife and environmental based programs. Please contact the Zoo’s Education Programs department at 443.552.5300 to learn more about scheduling any of the following teacher trainings.

K-12 Curriculums:

Project WILD

Project Wild is an interdisciplinary conservation and environmental education program emphasizing wildlife. Project WILD enhances student learning in all skills and subject areas through hands-on activities that fulfill their natural interest in the environment.

This is a 6 hour training. Participants will receive the Project WILD K-12 Curriculum Guide and Project WILD Aquatic K-12 Curriculum Guide at the completion of the workshop.

Cost: $25 per participant


Project Learning Tree

Project Learning Tree uses the forest as a “window” on the world to increase students’ understanding of our environment. This curriculum stimulates students’ critical and creative thinking; develops students’ ability to make informed decisions on environmental issues; and instills in students the commitment to take responsible action on behalf of the environment.

This is a 6 hour training. Participants will receive the Project Learning Tree K-8 Curriculum Guide at the completion of the workshop.

Cost: $25 per participant


Project WET

Project WET is a water education program for grades K-12. The goal of Project WET is to facilitate and promote awareness, appreciation, knowledge, and stewardship of water resources.

Early Childhood Curriculums:

Growing Up WILD

Growing Up WILD is an interdisciplinary environmental education curriculum geared toward teaching young children (ages 3-7) about nature.

This is a 4 hour training. Participants will receive a Growing Up Wild Exploring Nature with Young Children Activity Guide at the completion of the workshop.

Cost: $25 per participant


Environmental Experiences for Early Childhood

This program includes over 130 experiences that engage children in outdoor play and exploration and is specifically designed for educators who work with children ages 3-6. Topics include exploring nature with five senses, meeting neighborhood trees, and experiencing trees through the seasons. An accompanying music CD features songs that encourages children to sing, dance, and move.
