The Maryland Zoo in Baltimore’s two lion cubs are growing healthy and strong, recently turning 5 weeks old. The cubs are now becoming much more active and curious, exploring every part of the behind-the-scenes area where keepers continue to care for them day and night.
Both the male and the female are showing very positive signs of health. The cubs are starting to get their first teeth as well which is allowing keepers to introduce meat into their once formula-only diet. The process of weaning the cubs will take several weeks and will involve slowly introducing more solid food into their daily diet.
Plans are still being made to help recruit the public’s help in naming the two cubs. Look for more information to be available soon including information on how you can participate. For more cub updates, photos and videos, connect with the Zoo on Facebook and follow us on Twitter.
