BALTIMORE, MD — The camels are here! The Maryland Zoo in Baltimore’s summer resident camels have arrived in Baltimore from their winter home in North Carolina. Beginning today, May 1, The Maryland Zoo invites you to take the ride of a lifetime on the back of these desert dwellers! From now through July 31 and again September 1-30, Zoo visitors will be able to ride 12-year-old Oscar, the 2,800 lb Bactrian camel, or Dromedary camel Niles, who is 11-years-old and almost 8 feet tall.
This year Zoo visitors can also see young camel Sandy, a 3 ½-year-old Dromedary camel that travels with Oscar and Niles. Sandy, who is too young to take riders, will be hanging out with Niles and Oscar this summer. Camel rides are offered at the Zoo daily, from 10:30 am until 4:00 pm, for $5.00 per person. The camels are located in between the Rock Island penguin exhibit and the Elephant Overlook.
Bring your family, bring your camera and take the ride of the summer!
